Ali Basim scholarship to Oxford Royale Academy

Ali Basim Lilani will be studying introduction to engineering in the UK after winning a two-week scholarship to Oxford Royale Academy.

Ali Basim, aged 13, is a student at Mzuzu international academy, and was chosen from a strong pool of Malawian students who applied for a full scholarship at the prestigious summer school, which includes daily lessons in advanced subjects and a variety of excursions around the UK to supplement students’ learning.

Ali Basim will study introduction to engineering this summer with other young people from around the world.

He found out he had won the scholarship when he was at home, when he had just finished studying and doing homework. His father called him and showed him the e-mail that he had received from Oxford Royale Academy. It said that he had been selected to study in the UK this summer. After hearing this, he was so excited and he could not believe that he was the one chosen from the whole Malawi. He said, "I really felt amazing. It was a dream come true for me as I have always wanted to travel to Europe especially the UK."

Ali Basim first became interested in Introduction to engineering when he realized that he would rather choose engineering because he is so interested in knowing a-lot about it as he thinks this is his favourite career.

After finishing high school, Ali Basim hopes to use the skills gained from Oxford Royale Academy in his future career to become a pilot in such a way by having a more experience in piloting as well as solving problems that are related in aviation engineering to save lives of people aboard.
