MidYIS – Chances of Success at IGCSE.

Computer-adaptive tests, baseline data and target-setting for 12-14 year-olds.

25th September 2015

Dear Parents,

In order to track the academic development of your children we are proposing to introduce MidYIS Tests to the secondary section of Mzuzu International Academy. These tests are published and administered by the CEM Centre based at Durham University in the UK and used in over 3000 schools worldwide.

MidYIS Tests are primarily designed to be taken when pupils enter secondary school. They are computer-adaptive and are available for Years 7, 8 and 9. Designed to fit into a lesson period (about one hour) they are quite strictly administered to ensure that all pupils are exposed to the same instructions, explanations and examples – ensuring fair, high quality reliable data.

Principal’s Update Tuesday 29th September 2015.

Dear Parents,

It has been a real pleasure to meet many of you during my first month at Mzuzu International Academy. I certainly hope to see as many parents as possible at the upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences to be held in school during the day of Friday 16th October. Teachers will be available to meet with parents and their children between 9:00 am and 3:30 pm. This meeting will give parents the opportunity to discuss progress so far and the development of strategies to improve student learning in the run up to the end of term assessments. We will hold a second set of Parent Teacher Conferences on Friday 18th December after the end of term assessments. Both of these days have been set aside for teachers to meet with parents and there will be no classes on those days. Students should also attend these meetings in school uniform.
