MidYIS – Chances of Success at IGCSE.

Computer-adaptive tests, baseline data and target-setting for 12-14 year-olds.

Dear Parents,

In order to track the academic development of your children we are proposing to introduce MidYIS Tests to the secondary section of Mzuzu International Academy. These tests are published and administered by the CEM Centre based at Durham University in the UK and used in over 3000 schools worldwide.

MidYIS Tests are primarily designed to be taken when pupils enter secondary school. They are computer-adaptive and are available for Years 7, 8 and 9. Designed to fit into a lesson period (about one hour) they are quite strictly administered to ensure that all pupils are exposed to the same instructions, explanations and examples – ensuring fair, high quality reliable data. It is important to note that the tests are designed to measure, as far as possible, ability and aptitude for learning rather than achievement. MidYIS is not an IQ Test; it is designed to provide a measure of typical performance so that teachers can judge how much effort will be required to take pupils to external examinations.Click here, for more information.

December Reports

Dear Parents,
Unfortunately a number of senior students were not issued with their reports on Thursday December 17th the last teaching day of term. I can only apologise to those of you who did not receive reports adding that the situation was beyond the control of the school. As with the rest of Mzuzu we spent a large part of the day without power and were thus unable to complete the printing of these reports.
